Ruth Jelena Köttner sees herself as a painter. As can be seen from your series of cows and your series of potatoes, she mainly deals with organic forms in her painting. RJK contrasts the natural forms, which are determined by their objects, with synthetic paint (Acryl) and pictorial spaces constructed by it. Abstraction and gesture create tipping moments in terms of form and content, through supposed clarity, clear ambiguity and a great sense of detail.
1994 Born in Pflumper, nature and agriculture have always played a major role in RJK's world of experience. Nevertheless, this level is secondary and serves (first) only for image genesis. In addition to the abstractness given to the potato, its content level is also exciting. Among other things, RJK deals with self- and perception of others, Feminism, Painting theory, Feeling and humor. The annual theme of the control room for art “VIS À VIS – Face to face ”can be found here on several levels. We human viewers are confronted by RJK with human-sized cows or potatoes, have to position ourselves and reflect on our relationship with them. The contradictions and conflicts within RJK's painting are carried over to the relationship between the viewer and the pictures.
