The tenderness: “The world shall be saved through tenderness” (Fjodor Mikhailowitsch Dostoyevsky). In times of crisis, art offers all sorts of possibilities, to stand up to the world's crazy course. One of them lies in the conscious reversal of aggression and roughness. Four musicians from Cologne chose exactly this path - and consequently named their band after a heart-warming virtue: Tenderness is the credo of the present.
In a sense, the group is a product of the pandemic. Every week, singer Andreas Fischer and guitarist Tobias Emmerich met behind the walls of the cathedral city, to work out their musical plan. They took the British jangle pop of the 80s as their model: The Smiths, Orange Juice, Felt. Those formations sounded velvety smooth and although their melodies were quite lively, they were always born out of sensitivity. This is also the case with The Tenderness. In March 2020 their self-titled debut EP was released, In November of the same year they published four more pieces on “Die Zärtlichkeit II”.. It should not go unmentioned at this point, that the duo has expanded into a quartet since bassist Merlin Engelien and drummer David Dasenbrook joined. “Homesick Masterpieces” is the first long-player released.
Handsomest: Energy on stage, Ecstasy in the audience: The live experience with the synth-pop band Handsomest. Handsomest is an alternative pop group, which was brought to life as the bombastic brainchild of the Canadian-born lead singer and songwriter Darren Jones and the Göttingen-born arranger and producer Leonard Arnemann. In his lyrics, songwriter Darren tries to explore a variety of feelings: from growing up to sadness and loneliness to love and muffins. Funky, steady bass lines from bassist Janis, electric hooks from guitarist Jona, bombastic fills from drummer Moritz and powerful vocals from singer Pao, form the recipe for Handsomest's signature sound. Handsomest’s latest EP “cheap regalia” is now available digitally.
