Everything starts with the body: every gesture, every expression, every movement, every touch...The language of the body is an almost universal language. Seeing and feeling each other and making a connection to your own story, is deeply human.
The dance house temporarily N° 12 The tanz*werk Kassel focuses on the connection between somatic and artistic practice in dance. Somatic methods focus on the body by training body awareness, worked with touch and movement. In the dialogue between body and mind, insights are gained about the interaction of psychological and physical processes. The goal is to understand, how the body can perceive previously unconscious patterns of movement and behavior and make them conscious through targeted attention training. The connection between the personal/private and the performing body, Interweaving somatic exploration with artistic inquiry is a complex process. This is reflected in the complexity of dance (improvised and choreographed) and offers the dancers freedom of choice in their actions.
In the attempt to grasp something, the contact between the choreography arises, the dancers and the spectators. The space of meaning can be different for dancers and spectators and goes beyond the phenomenological space. New connections and meanings emerge, which can only be brought into the stage space through the experiences of the dancers.
The experience goes beyond the known and relatable. New things can emerge through a changed contextualization, that is more than the sum of its parts.
Die Performances, The workshop and the film provide an insight into different forms of artistic work, in which somatic experiences form the starting point or are the basis for research.
