After a quarter of a century has been long touted the almost universally proclaimed alternatives of capitalism, Historians have the latest with the financial crisis 2008 rediscovered capitalism as controversial research topic. Of the “Reemergence of a Historical Concept” is talk (Jürgen Kocka / Marcel van der Linden), a “New History of Capitalism” is demanded (Sven Beckert) and the historical profession is reminded, the “global capitalism” historically “to think” (Friedrich Farther). So deserving of this recent awakening in the historical capitalism research, but stunned a space especially: the almost complete silence about the role of agriculture in the process of capitalist transformation of the industry 19. and 20. century. This paper uses this neglected site and outlines some perspectives on the relevance of agricultural issues in modern historical capitalism research.
