In its early years in the early 2000s, ruangrupa transformed private living rooms into public spaces due to the political and social circumstances in Indonesia, to dedicate herself to her curatorial work.
The ruruHaus is part of ruangrupa's own history hanging out (Indonesian for getting together and hanging out with each other) as an inherent element. As a curatorial practice, the ruruHaus stands for the opening of a place, for being together and sharing resources. It is a room, which makes it possible to understand the overarching ecosystem of the city of Kassel, and can serve as an example, how the documenta fifteen represents itself.
The ruruHouse will start small and grow over time. Different knowledge, Skills, experience, Needs and values are incorporated and brought into balance here. The ruruHaus is a laboratory and a kitchen, equipped with a radio transmitter, so that the variety of stories can find their echo.

The former Sportarena department store in stairs street serves as the hardware of the ruruHaus. It is the first location of the documenta fifteen and can be seen as a kind of embryo. Meetings, assembly called, shape the decision-making processes for diverse programs and projects on the way to documenta fifteen. The kind practiced in the ruru house assembly is decided on the basis of the relationships, that arise through them. hanging out is practiced both physically and digitally. All activities organized for and by those in the world member barn are documented; instead of conceptual explanations, connections are made to Kassel's initiatives. As part of its function as an ecosystem for community projects, the ruruHaus becomes groups from various communities, Artists, Invite collectives and students, to participate in this place and to activate and fill it out together.
